TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF) -

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and in Colbert County, people have planned a tribute for those killed in domestic violence-related crimes.

Tuesday night, dozens of families and friends took to the Colbert Co. Courthouse to remember the lives of those lost. The Colbert Co. District Attorney placed crosses bearing the names of victims who have died in those crimes.

The ceremony also included a special moment recognizing Jessica Broadfoot, who was the latest local victim of domestic violence. Broadfoot's friends said they miss her every day and they will continue to fight for victims' rights.

All month long, leaders in the county and across the Shoals said they're committed to helping educate on the seriousness of the crime and how it affects the community.
