It's been one year since Brandon Hydrick was shot and killed in Limestone County. His friends and family gathered Sunday to remember and celebrate his life.

In honor of the avid outdoorsman, they participated in a two-hour hike on Monte Sano Mountain. Brandon was known for his love of nature and his family felt this was the best way to keep his memory alive.

"The entire week has been tough. A lot of people warned me the one-year anniversary would be hard. It has been hard, not just for me and everyone who cared about Brandon. That's why we thought we would gather here today, so all of us could celebrate his life and love of nature," said Hydrick's girlfriend, Bronwen Murray.

Meanwhile, the man charged with Hydrick's death will have an arraignment hearing next month.

Joel Moyers will go before a judge on Oct. 23. Investigators said Moyers shot and killed Hydrick on his property on Fennell Road. Hydrick's brother, who was with him at the time, said they were lost and were turning around their truck.

Moyers claimed he thought the men were intruders and he only intended to scare them off with a warning shot into the truck's bumper. His trial is set to begin in December.
