HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville police are investigating a shooting in northwest Huntsville that left one person dead and another injured.
It happened during an apparent robbery at a home on Clifford Road shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday night.
When police arrived they found two people shot. Investigators said 41-year-old Cedrick Fletcher had multiple gunshot wounds. His nephew, 18-year-old Rahsaun Fletcher, was shot once.
Both were rushed to the hospital, where Rahsaun was treated and released for a non-life threatening injury. Cedrick, however, died from his wounds. Family and friends were in the waiting room when they heard the news.
Friends of Cedrick Fletcher said he lived in the home his entire life. Vernon Jefferson, who grew up with Fletcher, described 'Ced' as a fun-loving guy who enjoyed video games, and said he thought that's what the robbers were after.
"He was robbed for something he didn't have. Somebody came to get something that they wanted, they would have had to go work for what he had. He had a video game. He lost his life for a video game," said Jefferson.
He went on to say that Cedrick wasn't supposed to be home when the robbery happened. "Someone was supposed to come pick him up and we got delayed," Jefferson said.
Jefferson and other friends of Cedrick spent Sunday hanging out in Fletcher's driveway. Without him, they said, it just wasn't the same.
"We lost a good friend," Jefferson said.
Officers on the scene Saturday night said they were searching for two male suspects. No word yet if any arrests have been made.
