HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Police responded to a domestic violence and child abuse case in southwest Huntsville Friday afternoon that left a woman and a young child injured.

The victim told police that she was in an argument with her ex-boyfriend while they were in his car. Police said a 2-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time as well. The victim told officers that she and her ex-boyfriend got into a physical fight in which the offender punched her several times in the face, grabbed her by the neck and began to choke her.

At one point, police said the victim was thrown on top of the child, bruising the child's forehand. The victim told police that the offender pushed her to the ground while outside the vehicle.

The victim was treated by HEMSI, and neither she nor the child received life-threatening injuries. The offender fled the scene before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made. This investigation is ongoing.
