BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

A Boaz woman is still in awe after finding a rare childhood picture of her mother at a local thrift store. It may have been one of many things stolen from a family trunk several decades ago, but for Carolyn Cross, the photo has special meaning: a ‘new' memento of her mother, who passed away eight years ago.

Carolyn loves her family. Her family history has been dated back to the mid-1800s and she loves collecting family photos. But she doesn't have many photos of her mother, Velma Walker Reid.

When she saw the picture for the first time, she quickly realized it was her mother, having recognized the family homestead. Upon further investigation, she found the picture had her mother's name and age. For Cross, it has been an overwhelming discovery.

"I just couldn't believe it. It probably doesn't mean anything to anybody, but it does to me and my family because that is a miracle," said Cross.

While it is unknown how the picture found its way to the thrift store, Cross was told it had been there for quite some time. She said the thrift store people were very nice and let her have her mother's picture for free.
