NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Drivers on Interstate 440 will only have to endure one more weekend of lane closures for repair work, as the weeks-long project is finishing ahead of schedule.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation says the one-mile section of eastbound I-440 between I-65 and I-24, including the on and off ramps at Nolensville Road, will have its final closure this weekend.

More than 106,000 vehicles travel along I-440 each day, according to TDOT, and the repairs are part of a $9.7 million project to widen the stretch of interstate.

Crews will begin closing the lanes at 4 a.m. Saturday, and the lanes should be back open by 10 p.m. All that's left to do are some final pavement markings and clean up.

The work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of rain, but rain is not expected in the area until Sunday.

In the meantime, detours are as follows:

  • From the north, take I-65 south to the I-65/I-40 split over to I-24.
  • From the south, take I-65 north to go to I-24/I-40 or take the Harding Place exit over to I-24.
  • From the west, stay on I-40 east to the I-65/I-40 split over to I-24.
  • If you are driving on I-440 eastbound, drivers will be advised to take I-65 north over to I-24 or I-40.
