JASPER, AL (WBRC) -

An automotive supplier in Walker County is expanding and doubling its staff, bringing 100 new jobs to the Jasper area.

Governor Robert Bentley was on hand for a ribbon cutting at the enlarged HTNA plant on Friday morning.

HTNA, which stands for Hayashi Telempu North America Corporation, supplies auto parts to Japanese and American car manufacturers. The company first came to Jasper in 2011. It started with 84 jobs but the company is planning to add 100 more jobs with this new expansion.

The expansion includes a new 145,000 square foot facility in the Bevill Industrial Park. Governor Bentley says these new jobs will provide a big boost to Jasper's local economy.

"It's really a major effect on an area like Walker County when you have even 100 jobs. That's a lot of people, it affects a lot of families, and then the multiplier effect of that is tremendous," Bentley said.

Governor Bentley alluded to the fact that HTNA has plans to expand again in the future but said the company isn't quite ready to announce those plans just yet.

HTNA makes several different auto supplies but they are mostly known for the carpeted floor boards that are in many cars today.

Officials representing Honda, Toyota and HTNA all spoke at today's event.
