FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Florence firefighters spent Friday on the scene of an apartment fire.

It started around 10 a.m. on East Tuscaloosa Street. No injuries were reported and fire officials said they evacuated everyone from the second story apartments and the businesses below.

Officials said the fire started while electricians worked on the building. The fire then shot up through the attic.

All five apartments suffered heavy smoke and water damage, which also affected the businesses downstairs.

One of the tenants is schoolteacher Sarah Jones, who was in the middle of class when she found out about the fire. She said she was thankfully able to salvage some of her personal items.

"I was able to get my laptop out and some of my jewelry. I had some jewelry from my mom and grandmother, and some gifts I had been given, some special things to me, but that's about it," said Jones.

Fire crews are still working to determine an exact cause.
