To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Children's of Alabama Hospital and the Junior League of Birmingham are pushing for a new car tag in Alabama, one that would raise awareness for kids with diabetes.

The new "Hope for Kids with Diabetes" tag was unveiled Thursday morning at the hospital.

They have to get 1,000 people to pre-commit to buying the tag before the DMV will make it. Right now there are about 900 people signed up, so they just need 100 more.

The car tags are an extra $50 on top of your normal fees. Of that $50, $41 will go to the Pediatric Endocrinology Clinic at Children's of Alabama.

The clinic is currently treating about 900 patients a month. The money raised through the car tag sales will help those patients dealing with their illness.

"That money is dedicated to research and pediatric care and transitional care for our patient population that is struggling with diabetes today," Emily Hornak with the Alabama Children's Foundation said.

Today the Junior League of Birmingham had gave away free snacks and promoted healthy eating habits at today's event.
