Alabama A&M 2013-14 men's basketball schedule is highlighted by 12 home games in Huntsville, a renewed rivalry and a trip out west for third year head coach Willie Hayes.
A&M will start the season on the road in Albuquerque, New Mexico to take on Mountain West member the Lobos of New Mexico on Nov. 9. This will be the first meeting between these two schools. The game will be televised on Root Sports television.
An historic crosstown rivalry that has been dormant for 15 years will be renewed this basketball season, with The Mayor's Cup on the line. Alabama A&M and the University of Alabama at Huntsville will play Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center.
A four day trip will start off in Kalamazoo, Michigan where the Bulldogs will face off against Western Michigan on Nov. 17 and then travel down south to Kentucky to battle Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 19.
To end the month of November Jacksonville State will see Elmore Gymnasium for the first time since 2001. The Gamecocks will roll in on the 25th.
Starting the month of December, Tennessee State hosts the Bulldogs on Dec. 3, in Nashville, TN. The lone home game in the last month of the year see's A&M entertaining HBCU cross town rival Oakwood University, on the 5th.
Ohio University will welcome the Bulldogs to unfamiliar territory on Dec. 14. Last year Missouri State visited "The Hill" as the Bulldogs will return the favor visiting Springfield, MO on Dec. 21. In the last game in 2013, the Maroon and White will travel south on I-65 to Birmingham to challenge The University of Alabama Birmingham.
"Our non-conference schedule covers a lot of the things we needed to get done. It enables us to play some rivalry games at home and see different styles of teams," said Hayes
The Bulldogs begin conference play at Jackson State on Jan. 4. The two showdowns with Alabama State will happen in Montgomery on Jan. 18, while the Hornets come to Huntsville on Feb. 15.
Alabama A&M will begin the rest of their SWAC schedule by hosting Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Jan. 11. Other conference home games include: Mississippi Valley (Jan. 13), Texas Southern (Feb.1), Prairie View (Feb. 3), Southern (Feb. 22), Alcorn (Feb. 24), Jackson (March 6) and Grambling (March 8).
AAMU will be on the road at Grambling (Jan 6), Southern (Jan. 25), Alcorn (Jan. 27), Arkansas Pine- Bluff (Feb. 8), Mississippi Valley State (Feb. 10), Prairie View (March 1), and Texas Southern (March 3).
The 2014 SWAC Tournament begins on March 11 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
