Tuscumbia PD acquires new crime scene tools

Posted: Updated:

A community grant is helping a police department in the Shoals process crime scenes more efficiently.

The Tuscumbia Police Department has been awarded a $5,000 grant for crime scene tools. The money is part of the Colbert County Community Development Commission grant.

With the funds, the department has been able to stock their investigators with state-of-the-art crime scene kits. These kits contain all the tools needed to efficiently work a crime scene. Some of the items included are specifically used to detect and collect DNA, which can play a key role in solving crimes.

"We've needed to update our crime scene investigative tools for a while," said Chief Tony Logan. "Technology has changed so much through the last several years, and through this grant, we were able to purchase the needed equipment."

"We won't have to call in other agencies to work our crime scenes. We always want to partner with other agencies, but this allows us to do things we weren't able to do before," said Logan.

Police said the tools provide them with an added resource when it comes to serving and protecting the local community.
