Dry hydrant hinders battle of mobile home fire

Posted: Updated:

Emergency crews battling a mobile home fire in Triana had to find another fire hydrant to tap into, after the first one they tried had no water.

First responders were called to Wall Triana Boulevard and Swancott Road. A backup crew was called in after 3 p.m.

Fire officials said that the first hydrant they tapped, about 400 yards from the site of the fire, was dry. Firefighters were able to successfully tap a second hydrant about the same distance away.

The mayor of Triana said no one was inside at the time. Fire officials said that the homeowner was notified of the fire. The Red Cross will be on the scene to offer assistance.

The mobile home suffered severe smoke, fire and water damage. No injuries were reported. A cause has not been determined.
