Remembering Deputy James Anderson 4 years later

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

Family and friends of Lee County Deputy James Anderson gathered at his graveside Tuesday September 24 to mark the four-year anniversary of his death.

With their hands locked firmly together, fingers intertwined, the widow and daughter of Deputy James Anderson hold onto each other on the four year anniversary of his death.

Surrounded by their law enforcement family, Anderson's parents, his widow, and two children laid a wreath at his graveside....along with a few cans of Coke, something Anderson – a huge Alabama fan – always had to quench his thirst.

"We are simply here to honor the memory of Deputy James Anderson," said Sheriff Jay Jones with the Lee County Sheriff's Office. "A good man, a faithful public servant who loved his job and loved his family."

Anderson's died doing what he loved on September 24, 2009. He had turned around on a suspicious-looking vehicle. The driver, Gregory Lance Henderson, pulled into a yard and turned around. Anderson followed and exited his patrol car, when Henderson floored his vehicle running Anderson over, crushing him.

"I will never forget where I was when I got the call, I don't think anyone in this office will," said Sheriff Jones. "It's one of those moments in time you will never forget and we shouldn't forget."

Sheriff Jones says in this case, time does not heal all wounds.
