ANNISTON, AL (WBRC) -

Residents may not be able to chain their dogs in Anniston much longer.

Anniston's City Council is expected to decide on an ordinance that would ban the chaining of dogs to trees or stakes.

The ordinance would allow dogs to run freely in fenced-in backyards.

City Council member Millie Harris sponsored the ordinance, following a recommendation from a task force. She says she's also advocating that dogs live in the house and be taken to areas where they meet other people and animals, so they won't be territorial.
