HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Hundreds of people became a little healthier Saturday.

They took a proactive step by attending an annual event at Alabama A&M's student health and wellness center. Participants were offered free health screenings, haircuts and exercise classes.

"Alabama is number two in obesity rates, so that should get people to learn how to prevent obesity, prevent heart attacks and diabetes," said Daniel Kasambila, director of the Student Health & Wellness Center.

"This type of event has a great hands-on effect with all the great professionals and organizations that were a part of this, to tell people how they can prevent all these types of health care issues," he said.

Saturday's event was a collaborative venture between Asha Kiran, 100 Black Men of America – Greater Huntsville Chapter, and the North Alabama Coalition for the Homeless.
