To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

New numbers released by the Alabama Department of Labor show the state's unemployment rate sits at 6.3%. That number is up from 6.2% in July.

The Alabama Department of Labor said the number of people who are able and looking for work, was 2,149,716 in August 2013, compared to 2,159,298 in July and 2,157,965 last year.

The number of people employed was 2,015,349 compared to 2,024,451 and 1,996,530 last year.

The department also reported the counties with the lowest unemployment rates are: Shelby County at 4.5%, Lee County at 5.5%, and Cullman and Baldwin Counties at 5.6%.

The counties with the highest unemployment rates are: Wilcox County at 16.0%, Dallas County at 14.1%, and Perry County at 14.0%.

A state spokesperson did release a statement on why they had to make revisions to the unemployment rate:

"The numbers released each month are preliminary estimates prepared by the Bureau of Labor Services, which is a division of the U.S. Dept. of Labor.  BLS estimates the unemployment numbers each month based on population surveys and predictions regarding seasonal employment factors.  Occasionally, there are things that happen in the economy that affect these estimates. If and when this happens, BLS will revise their estimates.  This is not uncommon, and happens throughout the year. Additionally, at the end of the year, BLS will review the estimates for all twelve months and make necessary adjustments.  This is known as benchmarking."
