Man takes guilty plea in hit-and-run death

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Lauderdale County man pleaded guilty Thursday in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 13-year-old boy.

James O'Neal Wilson pleaded guilty Thursday morning, four days before he was set to go to trial. District Attorney Chris Connolly said that after discussions with the teen's family, they agreed to accept the plea deal.

Wilson pleaded guilty to the felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries or fatality. Investigators said Wilson hit and killed 13-year-old Da'Santo Ingram last October along Lauderdale County Roads 457 and 251.

Investigators said they had reason to believe Wilson was under the influence of sleeping pills at the time of the crash.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.
