TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

The University of Alabama Student Government Association has suspended Student Organization Seating for the first home football game of the season.

SGA President Jimmy Taylor explained in an email that after the recent allegations of racial discrimination against several university sororities, he wants "students to come together" and cheer on the Tide.

"Student Organization Seating is a positive thing and a great way to award student organizations for their contribution to the University," Tayor said in a press release. "Our first home game, however, should be a time for us to put aside our different campus affiliations and join together as one university."

Student Organization Seating is a form of block seating. According to documents on the SGA website, student organizations must successfully complete an application and pay an application fee of $250 to be considered for this block seating.

This practice has drawn criticism in the past. In 2011, the student newspaper, The Crimson White, published an article that stated the practice appears to falls outside of any university Code of Law or SGA Constitution.

FOX6 visited campus after the announcement and tried to get reaction from dozens of students, but no one wanted to go on camera. Off-camera, some said they were glad this was happening and others were very upset about the suspension.
