Area students line up for flu mist

MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

Dozens of students lined up Monday to teach the flu a lesson.

The flu mist clinic traveled from school to school around Madison County Monday, vaccinating every student with a permission form.

Health officials say the flu mist is 54 percent more effective, less invasive and lasts longer than the flu shot.

About 150 kids at Discovery Middle School in Madison got a mist.

School nurse Kelly Brewer said getting a flu mist is the "biggest thing you can do to protect your student from the flu and keep them in class."

"It's a virus. It's spread by sneezing and coughing and just close contact. And kids in a school. You're going to get it every year."

Brewer says she hopes all students participate next year.
