HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A pro-life group has threatened to start protesting at Crestwood Medical Center over a doctor the group claims is performing abortions.

No abortions are done at Crestwood, but the pro-life group is organizing a public protest in front of the hospital on Oct. 19 if the hospital continues to grant administrative privileges to the doctor.

The pro-life group didn't want to give the doctor's name, citing legal reasons.

Protests in front of the women's clinic where abortions are performed in downtown Huntsville are nothing new, but bringing them to the Crestwood campus is.

"It will go as far as it needs to go to convince the Crestwood management and their corporate management that the vast majority of people in Huntsville don't want to support abortion," said supporter Rev. James Hendersen. "We are here to stay. We expect to be here this winter, we expect to here next year, we expect to be here until the job is done."

State Senator Shadrack McGill was on hand for Monday's announcement.

"There's other places that I could be, but this is the most important place I could be today," he said.

McGill acknowledged some would criticize his decision to stand behind the group, but he did not answer any questions from the media.

The pro-life group hand delivered a letter with their concerns to the hospital's CEO.

"We believe the time has come to cut that lifeline off once and for all that sustains abortion in Huntsville, said a supporter.

The group says it's giving the hospital until Oct. 19 to re-think their decision in approving admitting privileges to the doctor. If nothing changes, the group says it will protest in front of the campus for as long as it takes.
