HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community celebrated the Fourth Annual LGBT Center Awareness Day in Huntsville Sunday.

The open-house event was held at the new GLBT Advocacy & Youth Services community center on Poole Drive.

"We are promoting the awareness of the social services we offer, the support groups we offer, and just the fact that we are here," said PR coordinator Kevin Whisenant. "We've been here since July. We want the community to know we're here, and for people to show their support and know that we support them."

This year's theme for the worldwide event was "Because Great LGBT Communities Begin with Great LGBT Community Centers."
