HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A man has admitted robbing five area banks in a plea agreement he reached with prosecutors.

Joe Guthrie, who was arrested in Huntsville just after a bank robbery in Lacey's Spring, could face as much as 30 years in prison for the robberies.

According to the plea agreement, Guthrie said he robbed the Bank Independent in Hartselle, the Premiere Bank in Eva, the People's Bank in Somerville, the Eva Bank and the People's Bank in Lacey's Spring.

Guthrie is also responsible for restitution: Some $44,360 to be paid to the banks.

The plea agreement also said shoes found in the getaway vehicle matches those worn by a Decatur bank robber in 2012, but he is not charged in that case.

Guthrie will be sentenced Dec. 18 at the federal courthouse in Huntsville.
