Phone tip helps Albertville police nab burglar in the act

ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Albertville Police said they caught a burglar in the act Wednesday evening, thanks in part to an attentive public.

43-year-old Samuel Earl Jamison is currently being held in the Albertville City Jail on burglary charges. Police said Jamison was loading items from the rear of a detail shop on Highway 431 just after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Items such as extension cords, grinders and buffers were some of the items recovered from his vehicle.

Police also credit the call of a passerby who felt something didn't look right, allowing time for officers to arrive on the scene before Jamison could drive away.

"If the phone call had not been made, we would probably have had a burglary with very little to go on and a victim with several thousand dollars worth of tools missing," said Assistant Police Chief Jamie Smith.

Jamison is currently awaiting bond to be set by a judge.
