58 lbs. of pot seized from Madison man's home

MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

A Madison County man was arrested Wednesday after drug task force agents found nearly 60 pounds of marijuana in his home.

Larry Ray Long, 51, was arrested and charged with trafficking and possession of drug paraphernalia.

"This is a person we have been interested in for the last couple of years because of some complaints we received and information we received," said Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely.

Long was arrested by members of the Madison-Morgan County Strategic Counterdrug Team, when a search warrant execution found 58 pounds of marijuana, a six-foot tall plant, and weighing scales, among other items.

"This is a real significant (drug bust)," said Sheriff Blakely. "Anytime you get this much weight, and get it off the street, we are real tickled with that."

A background check on Long found only four traffic citations. Long's neighbors refused to talk about the bust when approached for comment Thursday.

Long's bond has not been set.
