HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Police are searching for a lone gunman who attempted to rob a North Huntsville cell phone store Tuesday.

Along with the usual description - dressed in black with a handgun, etc., - he also has one distinct characteristic: a large cut on his head from being struck by a baseball bat.

The man tried to rob Phone Home cellular store, 1407 North Memorial Parkway, around 4:10 p.m.

According to police, the man entered the store and said he wanted to purchase some electronic items. However, he took the items and started to leave when the store owner grabbed a bat to prevent the thief from leaving.

Police said the thief pulled a handgun and fired one shot at the owner before running out to a waiting car.

The store owner was shaken up but not injured. No other details were available.
