The wet weather this summer means
high grass and a high volume of weed violations in Huntsville. Code enforcement
officers can barely keep up with complaints this year. If you let it grow over
eight inches you are technically violating city code. Tall grass and weeds can
not only be an eye sore, it also allows for more rodents and bugs in the area.
It can decrease your property value by up to 10 percent. Code enforcement
has seen a 40 percent increase in complaints this year. If you're found to be
in violation you get a two-week grace period before the city cuts it for you
and your stuck with a hefty bill. Even if you are hospitalized or away
from home for a significant amount of time you have the responsibility to have
your lawn maintained. The city will take repeat violators to court or place
liens on properties that are constantly left un-maintained. With very few code
officers to patrol Huntsville, the department relies on neighbors to call in
problem spots. Better yet go the extra mile and be a good neighbor
and see if there is something you can do to help your neighbor maintain their
