MADISON, AL (WAFF) - Doctors are treating a baby in the hospital after officials with Hemsi said the child was born in a toilet Monday afternoon.
Officers said the mother gave birth in a room at the Country Hearth Inn and Suites motel on Madison Boulevard.
A witness, Angel McCryndle, was in the room next door when it happened around 2:45 p.m. She said it was a very scary experience.
"I just kept hearing a lot of bumping and screaming then all of a sudden I heard a bump on the wall and somebody just scream for help," she said. McCryndle said she and other neighbors heard the cries for help, so they went to maintenance to let them in.
McCryndle said by the time she called 911 and got into the room next door, the baby had been born.
"All I just saw, they were inside the bathroom and they were holding it and she was just screaming, 'Help, I had the baby.' That's all I heard," she said.
Emergency workers said mom and her baby boy are doing well and being evaluated at Huntsville Women's and Children Hospital.
As far as the baby being born in the toilet, officials said there is nothing criminal about it and that it just happens like that sometimes.
