Church sends sobering message through crosses

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A local church takes a stand against violence in a sobering way. Macedonia Miracle Kingdom and Worship Center has placed dozens of crosses near the church, each one representing the life of an African-American man whose life was cut short in recent years.

"I weep and I'm angered," said Bishop Leo Lewis, Senior Pastor of the church. "I weep because of the victims. I'm angry because it happened on my watch."

Lewis said the violence has a far-reaching impact in the Black community and on society. and believes everyone has stake in reducing it. He said the root of the problem is spiritual.

"The death of our system is because we've declared independence from our source, our God."

The crosses coincide with the church's Save the Black Seed weekend. More information can be found on the church's Facebook page. It's located at 3070 Selma Highway in Montgomery.
