RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Franklin County man is being held on murder charges, accused of killing his own mother. Authorities said the woman was killed several days ago, and her body left in a home on Green Avenue in Russellville.

Police said they forced entry into the home on Green Ave., where they found Rosiland Spencer dead inside the back bedroom. Investigators said they were alerted by a neighbor concerned about Spencer's well-being.

Investigators said they found the 65-year-old woman and obvious signs of a struggle. They said evidence collected from the scene led them to her son, 46-year-old James Chris Spencer. Police were able to track down Spencer at Helen Keller Hospital, where he had been admitted for an attempted drug overdose.

Spencer remains in the hospital under guarded condition. A warrant for his arrest has been made in the death of his mother.
