RIVERSIDE, AL (WBRC) -

Police in Riverside believe they have solved the case of a non-fatal shooting after the bodies of a husband and wife were discovered in separate areas.

On Sunday, Donald Littlefield reported to officers he had been shot in the legs by his stepson, Wesley Westcott, age 20. Officers started looking for Westcott and his wife, 18-year-old Christian Stipes, in connection to the shooting.

Stipes' body was discovered next to a set of railroad tracks during the early hours of Monday, Sept. 2. Investigators say it appears she was struck by a train while walking along the tracks.

Police searched for Westcott for two days, looking in nearby woods and checking licenses at traffic stops. Westcott's body was eventually located in a pond near city hall around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Investigators believe the deaths may involve suicide or could be accidental. Police say they have no reason to believe either person died from foul play.

Riverside's police chief Rick Oliver called the case a domestic incident.

"The victim is at the hospital, and then the suspect is no longer with us. So that closes our case," Chief Oliver said.

Autopsies will be performed on both bodies to determine the causes of death.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
