MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A piece of Madison County history will soon have a new location.

Thursday morning, crews are scheduled to move a historic cabin from its current location to Sharon Johnston Park.

The move will begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to continue through noon.

Movers will take the cabin from its current place on Mountain Fork Road to its new home at the park. They'll travel from Mountain Fork Road to Winchester then onto Coleman Road through Gate One at the park.

Sheriff's deputies will block portions of Winchester during the move. Drivers traveling through the area should find alternate routes.

Movers prepared for weeks making sure the historic cabin was ready for a safe journey. Even though it's just a four-mile trip, they wanted to make sure it reached its new home safely and in good condition.

The 180-year-old cabin was built by one of New Market's first settlers, Cruson Snyder, and was made out of cedar logs and mud.

The cabin's original owners, the Fanning family, donated the cabin to Madison County. It will now stand at Sharon Johnston Park, overlooking the lake and will soon be open to the public for tours.

Members of the Madison County Commission said the cabin is a true gift. Commissioner Roger Jones said it is an example of how the county's forefathers and early settlers lived.
