HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - You won't see skating at the Huntsville Skate Park for a month, but you will see plenty of action. Change is on the way, and that's fine with Deborah Bean. She wouldn't mind some chairs, benches, maybe a few vending machines.
"Maybe a little bigger, too," said Bean. "Maybe an area for younger children that want to start out and not feel intimidated by some of the older children."
That might be the case in the future. Right now, most of the construction plans we've seen focus on additional concrete pathways and sidewalks and repairs to the steps and ramps.
A lot of people didn't know and may still not know that the park's going to be closed for a month for those repairs. Bean says that's the downside.
"This is the month that the kids love to do this," said Bean. "It's a little more milder temperature, and it's something to do after school.
The park should reopen by Oct. 1.
