DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

A Decatur man was charged with domestic violence and assault after an altercation Sunday morning.

According to Decatur police, Terry James Light, 27, was involved in a fight with his girlfriend around 1:45 a.m. Sunday in his Brookline Avenue apartment when Andrew Renew placed Light "in a headlock" so he couldn't harm the woman. Renew was visiting at the apartment.

Police said Light then grabbed a candlestick holder from a coffee table and hit Renew on the back of the head, cutting him. Renew was also cut on the left forearm when the candlestick holder shattered. He was treated at Decatur Morgan Parkway Campus.

Light was arrested and charged with domestic violence. On Monday, he was charged with assault and booked into the Decatur City Jail awaiting transfer to the Morgan County Jail.
