Protestors gather in Downtown Cleveland to oppose US involvement in Syria

DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

On Saturday, August 31, a group formed a grass roots gathering of Syrian Americans at Public Square, opposing a U.S. strike on Syria.

About 100 people demonstrated with concerns that a U.S. strike against Syria would be similar to other American strikes in the Middle East.

Protestors held signs saying "Don't bomb our families."

President Obama said the international community in general and the United States in particular, must deliver a resolute message to the Syrian regime.   But to many, the president's words fell on deaf ears. Asem Hajeh lived in Syria for 11 years before coming to the U.S. and wonders why a military strike is being contemplated now when the Syrian atrocities predate this latest violence.

"100,000 people die so far why now do we intervene?"

According to reports, Syria's president and his regime gassed more than 1,400 men, women and children in recent days but the idea that the U.S. has a duty to protect those too defenseless to protect themselves was rejected at the demonstration.

The demonstrators also have conspiracy theories involving America, Israel and the Middle East.

Others simply refuse to believe that the Syrian government would gas its own people.
