HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Children across North Alabama are already coming down with the flu.

Doctors at Pediatric Associates in Huntsville said they are seeing flu cases among children in Madison. They remind parents that it's never too soon to give your child a flu vaccine. In fact, they've already given 2,000 flu shots this season and counting.

This year, they're giving the new "quadric-valent" vaccine. Instead of protecting against three strains of flu, the new vaccine covers four.

"When you get your flu vaccine, you want to know you're getting the quadric-valent to get the best protection," said pediatrician Dr. Tim Stewart. "Both will be available. We want to make sure you get the best protection you can for children and for those at the highest risk."

This is the first year doctors are introducing the new vaccine. It's a little more expensive, but doctors said to check with your insurance to see if it is covered.
