CULLMAN, AL (WAFF) -

Cullman County Regional Airport celebrated a major milestone Friday.

Cullman Mayor Max Townson, who is also chair of the airport's board, performed the honor of cutting the ribbon as officials celebrated the completion of a big project. They built a new apron for loading passengers and refueling. The airport also has some new hangars. The $2 million project is 90% federally funded.

"They just got the Airbus down in Mobile, so like the automobile industry, there's going to be suppliers," said Townson. "Hopefully we can continue that process with aircraft."

The Cullman Airport board also applied for a grant to help extend the runway for bigger planes.
