SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -

Officials at the Colbert County Health Department said that the dog that bit a young girl earlier this week tested negative for rabies, which means the girl will not have to go through additional medical treatment.

Second-grader Mackenzie Lebron survived a dog attack after she saw the canine go after her little brother. Lebron has multiple bite wounds on her stomach and leg. She was treated at a local hospital and released several hours later.

Officials said it is still unclear what provoked the dog to attack. Neighbors said they saw the dog wandering in the area several days before the incident.
