Hartselle burglary suspect arrested in Georgia motel

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

A Hartselle burglary suspect was found and arrested in a Georgia motel Wednesday.

According to the Morgan County sheriff's office, residents of a Bluebird Lane home returned from church Sunday and their front door forced open. They discovered a diamond ring and earrings, a gold necklace, several gold rings, a 1968 Morgan County High School class ring and several old coins missing.

The victims gave the name of a suspect to deputies, who began a search for him and the stolen jewelry. Some of the jewelry was found at a local shop and records showed Matthew Loyd Brown, 32, had sold the jewelry to the store Monday.

An arrest warrant was issued for Brown and investigators found Wednesday he was staying in a Carrollton, Ga., motel. Carrollton police officers arrested him and he is awaiting extradition to Morgan County where he will be held on a $5,000 bond.
