DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

A nearly month-long check scam investigation has led to the arrest of two men, according to Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin.

Franklin said the scam involved several local banks and merchants. They allegedly used software to print checks with false information on them.

Traditions Bank in Priceville said the men opened checking accounts using checks issued by Regions bank and purportedly drawn on accounts of Calhoun Community College and General Electric. The men also received debit cards and checks to use.

Before they left the Priceville bank, they withdrew money from an ATM in the bank and then used the debit card in other places.

Deputies arrested Reginald Davis, 26, of 1407 Brookline Ave. SW in Decatur  and charged him with three counts of possession of a forged instrument. He is in the Morgan County Jail in lieu of $105,000 bond. Justin Zontana Patterson, 21, of 22168 Menowa Trail, Athens was charged with one count of possession of a forged instrument. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
