Huntsville school board to ask state for per-student funding

Posted: Updated:
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Huntsville School Board plans to file for a waiver asking the state to provide funding on a per-student basis.

The school board held a special meeting Thursday evening to discuss the per-pupil funding waiver and to get public input. The Alabama Accountability Act allows the district to file for the waiver.

Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski said it's important to line the money up with kids. "We want to make sure we can directly trace expenditures back to the kids," he said.

Wardynski said this would also allow them to start the budgeting process earlier.
