MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The campuses of Marshall County schools were scenes of busy students shuffling to classes Thursday, which is how they will look like on Labor Day, a day typically given off for most students. Stephanie Granger was looking forward to taking her daughter, a DAR student, to the beach this weekend, but now that's out. "I went K through 12 at this school and we always had Labor Day off," said Granger.

Superintendent Tim Nabors said the legislature changed the calendar, so they put it to the staff which days to get off. "This calendar was sent out and voted on by the teachers, and the calendar we have now was the one that received the most votes," he said. Nabors said the calendar of days off has been on the school system's website since the spring.

That is not helping some parents, like Granger, feel any better. "I fought for my country and I think that my children should have rights," she said.

"Hopefully the law will pass and we won't have to do that. We will start earlier. We will have our fall break and we will have Labor Day next year," said Nabors.

Nabors said students will get Valentine's Day off, in order to have a break between Christmas and Spring Break.
