HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Veteran Shannon Cartee served two tours in Iraq during his time in the United States Army.

The North Alabama soldier now has concerns over what's going on in Syria, but doesn't want to see American troops go into the country. Cartee said he's already talked to some of his veteran friends and they share the same opinion. Cartee believes American troops are already spread too thin and he's fearful that an attack on Syria will cause more harm than good.

Cartee said he enlisted before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, but decided to re-enlist afterward for another round in the Army. When asked if he'd consider enlisting now knowing what's going on in Syria he said there's no way.

"A lot of soldiers are gung-ho and have the mindset that I'm going to defend America at all costs, but in my opinion, this isn't defending America," said Cartee.

The United States has not decided what, if any, action they'll take in Syria.
