Something fishy is going on in Guntersville, and the city is excited about it. The 43rd Annual Seafood Festival is this weekend.

The event is held by St. William Catholic Church. Part of the proceeds goes to the church, but another portion goes to help improve the community.

Cooking was already underway Thursday as preparations continued for the big event. More than 1,800 pounds of shrimp goes into the 600 gallons of gumbo being made. The gumbo will be sold by the pint and by the quart.

Seafood officials hope people will continue to come out this Saturday, and continue a tradition now in its 43rd year that continues to be a hit with residents a generation later.

"It is a great way to end the summer on Labor Day weekend," said Pastor Tim Pfander. "Come out and enjoy your family, your friends, and some seafood."

The festival features a sit-down dinner at Civitan Park on Saturday that also includes crawfish, chicken, and catfish that begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. For early birds or those on the run, a drive-thru service begins at 7:30 a.m. Both services end when the last drop is served.

For those with their weekend already planned out, a drive-thru service is also planned for Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
