DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

A four-month-old child escaped injury Tuesday after a fire from a meth lab damaged a bedroom in a Morgan County home. A resident of the home was burned, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrested five people Wednesday on drug-related charges after responding to check on the welfare of two children at a Falkville home.

After finding a one-pot meth lab, the deputies called in the county's Drug Task Force who recovered two one-pot meth labs along with materials and chemicals to produce meth. The agents also discovered the damaged bedroom and noticed burns on Lucas Speegle, a resident at the house.

The Oden Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and the Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

The Morgan County DHR responded and took custody of two children – the four-month-old and a three-year-old – at the home and placed them in foster care. The children had to be decontaminated from their exposure to the meth labs and medical follow-ups are expected.

Speegle, 31, and Joseph Speegle, 29, were charged with two counts each of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; unlawful possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; and unlawful possession of felony drug paraphernalia. Their bonds were set at $505,000 each.

Sarah Speegle, 35,  was arrested and charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; unlawful possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; and drug endangerment of a child. Her bond was set at $402,500.

Mary Lou Speegle, 20, and Maygan Stover, 24, were arrested and charged with loitering in a drug house. Their bonds were set at $300 each.
