CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

A woods fire in north Caddo Parish Wednesday afternoon highlighted the danger posed right now by the extremely dry conditions in the ArkLaTex. As a result, all of north Caddo Parish is now under a burn ban.

Crews from Caddo Fire District 7 and 8 battled the blaze that is believed to have been sparked by a limb on a power line behind the Superior Tire and Timber mill off of Highway 1 between Oil City and Vivian.

The fire burned as many as 20 acres or more, according to CFD Fire Chief James Paulette, who says the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry came in to plow fire lines to help keep the flames away from the mill and tie yard itself.

While the flames got close to one structure, there are no reports of any being reached.

Paulette says because of the rising temperatures and dropping humidity, fire district chiefs in the area met Wednesday afternoon to discuss putting a burn ban in place. That order is was placed into effect Thursday morning.

That means the entire parish is now under a burn ban. The southern half of the parish was placed under a burn ban on August 20.

Burn bans are also already in effect for Webster, Bossier, DeSoto, Natchitoches and Sabine in Louisiana.

Burn bans are in effect for most of East Texas, including Cass, Upshur, Gregg, Marion, Harrison, Panola, Rusk Shelby, Nacogdoches, San Augustine and Sabine counties.

In Arkansas, burn bans have been ordered for Miller and Lafayette counties.
