ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Albertville city leaders hope reward money will prompt someone to come forward with information about defaced flags.

Earlier this month, a passerby to the Veterans Memorial Park noticed something unusual with the flags there. Upon further inspection, it was discovered someone had written anarchy symbols, swastikas, and the phrase "God is gay" on an American and Alabama State flag.

No arrests have been made, but the city council is sweetening the pot with a reward in the hopes that more information will come forward. "We have a couple of leads, a couple folks of interest," said Albertville Assistant Chief Jamie Smith. "In trying to speed the process up, the mayor and council have agreed and allowed us a $500 reward."

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Albertville Police Department.
