JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Jackson County has a new administrator. The Jackson County Commission voted Monday to extend a contract to Bob Manning.

Manning excepted and met with the board of registrars, the sheriff, and other county leaders he'll be working closely with.

Manning succeeds Sandra Erickson who was fired in June.

Commission Chairman Michael Hodges said he likes Manning's extensive work in both the public and private sector.

"Obviously government is very different from the private sector but I know we as a government can tighten our belts a little better, do a little more about being more efficient.  I think that's going to help quite a bit is having that private sector experience," said Hodges.

Manning also began his first day on the job Monday.
