MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Faulkner University says a test of its campus alert system, called Eagle Alerts, Wednesday showed that is system seems to be repaired.

Leaders initially sent out an emergency campus alert Tuesday morning to warn students and employees of an active shooter on campus, but the University confirmed some never received the alert. Some sort of technical issue kept some from receiving the notification.

The shooting that warranted the campus alert happened just before noon when a man went onto campus and shot his wife in an apparent domestic violence situation.

The University's security chief asked all students after chapel Wednesday to test the system and it worked.

WSFA 12 News spoke with a recent graduate of the Jones School of Law Tuesday who was concerned that friends on campus were never notified of the shooting except by word of mouth. There are more than 400 students, staff and faculty at JSL.

The person did not wish to be identified but provided a copy of an email from campus leaders addressing the system malfunction.

The email, sent from University President Jean-Noel Thompson to numerous Faulkner.edu email addresses, admitted that "most, if not all, JSL faculty, staff, and students did not receive the Eagle Alert messages."

Thompson's email apologized for the issue and said University leaders "are working as swiftly as we can to correct any malfunctions in our system or process."

Thompson's email explained that Faulkner, "recently moved from our former vendor for alert messaging to a new and much more robust system..." The email went on to say that leaders are working to find out why some got the alert immediately and others did not.

The University says alerts were also made via email, word of mouth and on the official website's homepage.

Officials said they will be looking at not only the alerts, but the entire response to learn how to improve should any other issue ever warrant a campus alert.
