Plant officials seek stay of cease-and-desist order

Posted: Updated:
BRIDGEPORT, AL (WAFF) -

Officials with a Jackson County biodiesel plant are asking a judge to allow them to reopen the facility.

The state fire marshal filed a cease-and-desist order Aug. 20 against Alabama Bioenergy in Bridgeport. There were two fires at the plant in May, prompting evacuations.

The company said it will suffer "serious and irreparable harm" if the order is not stayed.

However, residents said they may be harmed if the plant is allowed to reopen. Bridgeport's safety coordinator is among those who say it should not reopen.

Company officials are seeking an immediate hearing; no court date has been set.
