FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

Law enforcement officers confiscated 25 pounds of marijuana and arrested four Crossville people on drug possession and trafficking charges in DeKalb County.

DeKalb County sheriff's deputies, county drug task force and Geraldine police officers were responding to complaints of drug activity at a home on Alabama 75 in the Painter community.  One of the suspects tried to flee after the officers began searching the home.  Along with the marijuana, officers found other drugs and a pistol, said Sheriff Jimmy Harris.

"I'm glad to get this large amount of drugs off the street," Harris said. "Chief (Nelson) Gregory and his staff at Geraldine are always ready to work with us in these cases. Tips from citizens in the community led to this arrest and seizure."

Ubaldo Vieyra Rojes, 39; Rogelo Durel, 26; and Jennifer Dawn Smith, 33, were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and trafficking in marijuana. Heather Cherry Lopez, 29, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in marijuana and arrested on an outstanding warrant from the Crossville Police Department.

They were taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center were they await bond.
